Frequently Asked Questions

Question 1 How does Online Crime Reporting help me?
Answer 1 This service is an alternative way for you to report non-emergency crimes day and night without having to visit or call a detachment. The report you are submitting is reviewed and entered into the RCMP Records Management System by your local detachment. Your report is vital in assisting the RCMP with identifying crime trends in the community and deterring future crimes. An incident number will be included in a generated report that is emailed to you upon submission.
Question 2 Why can’t I report my incident type?
Answer 2

Online Crime Reporting is actively under development and does not currently support all incident types. We are continuously making improvements and adding incident types to the system.

Currently, you can report the following incident types:

  • Damage/Mischief Under $5000 to Property
  • Damage/Mischief Under $5000 to Vehicle
  • Theft of Bicycle Under $5000
  • Theft Under $5000
  • Theft Under $5000 from Vehicle
  • Lost Property

You may also be able to report on the following incident types depending on your RCMP detachment:

  • Hit and Run to Unoccupied Vehicle or Property
  • Driving Complaints
  • Lost or Stolen Licence Plates or Decals
Question 3 How fast will my online crime report be processed?
Answer 3 An incident number will be included in a generated report that is emailed to you upon submission. The incident is reviewed by your local RCMP detachment according to their operational capacity. However, there will be no follow up unless more information is required.
Question 4 How can I check the status of my report?
Answer 4 Currently, it is not possible to check the status of your report. The incident is reviewed by your local RCMP detachment. However, there will be no follow up unless more information is required.
Question 5 Will anyone follow up on my report?
Answer 5 The incident is reviewed by your local RCMP detachment. However, there will be no follow up unless more information is required.
Question 6 How can I edit my online crime report?
Answer 6 To update your report, please call your local RCMP detachment and reference your incident number.
Question 7 What if I have an ICBC claim associated to my incident?
Answer 7

For ICBC claims, you can make your ICBC appointment and get an estimate done before receiving an incident number from the police. ICBC will hold your claim and when you do provide the claim number and police incident number they can then authorize repairs.

For hit and run incidents and other queries, please contact ICBC at 604-520-8222.
